The lost poet of the Unknown
Wirt is defined by his insecurities. He overthinks everything, blames others for his mistakes, and hides behind a red pointy hat and a dramatic cape. He is terrified of taking responsibility.
Elijah Wood brings a frantic, neurotic energy to Wirt’s voice. His constant bickering with a talking bluebird and his frantic attempts to rationalize the absurd horrors of the Unknown provide deep, character-driven comedy.
Over the Garden Wall is a story about Wirt finally stepping up. He learns to conquer his fear, reject the terrifying despair of the Beast, and become the protector his brother desperately needs.
