Ser Criston Cole begins his journey as a noble, earnest protector, deeply devoted to Rhaenyra Targaryen. However, when his romantic ideals are shattered by political reality, his love instantly curdles into a toxic, lifelong hatred.

Fabien Frankel portrays Cole’s devolution perfectly. He shifts from a sympathetic underdog into a rigid, deeply hypocritical enforcer who justifies his own horrific violence as righteous duty.

He is one of the most fascinating, infuriating characters in House of the Dragon. Cole is a brutal deconstruction of the "chivalrous knight" trope, proving that a wounded ego can be far more dangerous than a dragon.
