A survivor refusing the identity written for her
Sam Carpenter returns to Woodsboro when an attack places her younger sister Tara in danger. Her connection to the town carries a secret tied to its first murders. Protecting Tara forces Sam to face history she tried to outrun.
Ghostface uses Sam's parentage to suggest that violence is an inheritance rather than a choice. Sam fears the anger she can summon under pressure. Her decisions repeatedly separate survival instinct from the identity others impose upon her.
Melissa Barrera gives Sam a guarded physical stillness that breaks during confrontation. Her performance carries the newer films between legacy survivors and a younger group. The character broadens Scream's central question from genre knowledge to inherited trauma.
