The conscience inside Beverly Hills excess
Josh is Cher Horowitz's former stepbrother and a college student who still spends time in her father's home. He watches Beverly Hills privilege from a sceptical distance. His arguments with Cher place social responsibility beside her talent for persuasion.
Josh initially treats Cher's matchmaking and makeovers as shallow distractions. Her response to failure changes his view because she begins helping others without seeking status. Their friction gradually becomes mutual respect and then romance.
Paul Rudd keeps Josh observant without turning him into a moral lecture. His dry reactions give the comedy a quieter rhythm beside Cher's rapid confidence. The performance makes their eventual connection feel rooted in attention rather than sudden attraction.
