The meta-horror icon
Unlike other horror icons, Ghostface is not a single person. The mask and robe are a mantle taken up by a revolving door of vengeful, obsessed, or completely insane individuals, making the killer’s identity a perpetual, deadly mystery.
Voiced with menacing, playful cruelty by Roger L. Jackson, the character turns a simple telephone call into a terrifying game of cat and mouse. The costume itself is deliberately clumsy, grounding the killer in terrifying reality.
Ghostface represents the dark side of fandom and obsession. The character’s constant self-awareness and reliance on cinematic rules make them the perfect antagonist for a franchise built on deconstructing horror.
