The soldier who came home to another war
Frank Castle enters the screen story as a man trained for conflict and hollowed out by loss. After his wife and children are killed in a Central Park shootout, he redirects the discipline, endurance and tactical skill of his military career toward the people he holds responsible. The skull on his armour becomes both warning and identity: Castle is no masked idealist, but a man who has reduced justice to a mission.
Jon Bernthal’s portrayal first collides with Matt Murdock in Marvel’s Daredevil before moving into Marvel’s The Punisher. Their conflict gives Castle his sharpest dramatic edge. Daredevil believes every life leaves room for redemption; Castle believes hesitation allows violence to repeat. Beneath that argument sit the relationships that keep pulling him back toward humanity—Karen Page, Curtis Hoyle and David “Micro” Lieberman among them.
